How to play 3gp video in Windows Media Player

3GP mobile phone video is also known as MPEG4 video.An AMR file is one used by almost all cell phones today to compress voice recording such as MMS messages.If you have a Windows Mobile Phone or IPhone 3G the amount of free space in your memory is easily consumed by the amount of content accumulated by these great work companions. The ability to not only save 3gp movie files but view them on your PC at a later stage can be a problem if you use media player.
- 3GP files are viewable on a PC using QuickTime or RealPlayer.
- Windows Media player does come installed with the codec to view 3gp movie file formats.
- There is software out there if you prefer WMP. Choose which player is best for you.
So how do I get 3gp video files to play in WMP ?
To play properly 3GP files in Windows Media Player, Media Player Classic or other DirectShow player you need to install
the latest version of FFDShow MPEG-4 Video Decoder.(Ensure that AMR is enabled on FFDShow’s Audio Decoder tab and H263 enabled on FFDShow’s Video Decoder tab.)

This software is a collection of video and audio codecs and tools that are required to encode and decode (that is, play) audio and video files. With this pack, according to the developer, you should be able to play 99% of all the movies and music files that you download off the Internet, and stay up to date with the latest codecs through the program’s Codec Update Service.
While the default installation did not play my 3gp files it uses windows media classic which defeats the purpose of installing a codec for your latest installation of windows media player. If you are prepared to use another software package use QuickTime or RealPlayer.

Resizing your video to these specifications before uploading will help your clips look better on YouTube.
