Sony Xperia Upgrade l Part 4 l Backup Sony Xperia X10 apps and user data

Sony Xperia update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread is here

In the previous post we discussed

  1. Overview l Root, ROM and DATA Backup upgrade to Gingerbread
  2. Rooting Sony Xperia X10
  3. Backup Sony Xperia X10 ROM and Safely test new Roms
  4. Backup Sony Xperia X10 apps and user data
  5. Preparing Sony Xperia X10 for Gingerbread upgrade
The apps required for the rest of the tutorial require that your phone be rooted. The rooting process I have chosen might be easier but it will have to be re-installed if you update the Rom ie. Network update. We are just doing the network update, however doing backup of your ROM will allow you to  try new roms or just use the network update with the benefits of rolling back.

The latest Android platform for smartphones, Android 2.3.3, is now available for your Xperia™ X10.Software updates are released at different times depending on the Network operator and country.

You will lose data !
User data, such as contacts, messages and more, saved in your phone memory will be overwritten. User data saved on the phone’s memory card is not affected.

Backing up your data
Your Entire Backup can be done with Titanium Backup

The data that needs to be sync would be your contacts, email and calendar
Using gmail or Google apps this should be easy.
music, video and photographs can be done by mounting the unit to your PC or laptop or
Backup and share media with Dropbox
Do not lose your Andriod phone. if you have there is

In the previous article we covered rooting the Xperia

Find the app or combination of apps which will get you back in track in the event that data is lost or your phone needs to be replaced. One backup solution will not solve all occasions so try a new rom or re-install to see what data you have not covered with your backup solution. Do not wait till the dreaded event happens to ind out.

Sony Ericsson Family

Sony Ericsson finally started rolling out the long awaited Android version 2.1 upgrade to its Xperia X10 family.
Sony Ericsson has kept its users waiting for the upgrade which was scheduled for September. The release was delayed by Sony Ericsson at the end of September, saying that they needed a couple of more weeks to work on the software before it can be rolled out.

Earlier blog posts indicated that these updates will give you some features introduced by Android 2.1 and the Xperia X10 with one of the highlights being the HD-video recording in 720p with continuous auto focus.
The changes in user experience after the update is a mix of things added or changed going from Android 1.6 to Android 2.1 and things changed or improved by Sony Ericsson directly.

According to Sony Ericsson blog posts

kits for the Nordic countries will be the very first ones out on Sunday evening and then there will be more kits coming already during Monday and then the roll-out will continue throughout the month of November.

The Xperia X10, X10 mini and mini pro will be updated to Android 2.1, and will, for example, get five home screens for applications, widgets, shortcuts and folders, according to Sony Ericsson. Until now, all three models used version 1.6 of Google’s operating system.

The Xperia X10 is getting HD video recording with continuous auto-focus and a socialized phonebook, which automatically synchronizes pictures from Facebook and shows when contacts are online.

The two mini models are getting improved Bluetooth functionality and automatic synchronization of contact pictures between Facebook and your phone book. Sony Ericsson will improve how pictures, audio, text and numbers in messages are handled. All three phones are also getting an improved application for backing up and restoring data.

Xperia X10:

  • HD video recording with continuous auto-focus for high quality videos
  • Upgrade of the Android platform to Android 2.1
  • New back up and restore application, with extended content back up
  • 5 homescreens for apps, widgets, shortcuts and folders
  • Social phonebook which automatically syncs contact pictures from Facebook and shows when your friends are online

Xperia X10 mini and X10 mini pro:

  • Improved Bluetooth functionality with support for sending and receiving pictures, contacts and more
  • New backup and restore application with extended content back up
  • Automatic synchronization of your contact pictures between Facebook and your phone book
  • Improved ways of handling pictures, audio, text and numbers in your messages
  • Upgrade of the Android platform to Android platform 2.1

Users who don’t get the upgrade in the first few days should not get worry, as the upgrade will become more widely available over time, according to the blog post.

Testing WordPress for Android can only be worth the post  if done from the application. The WordPress blogging platform for Android enables Android powered phones to post, edit, moderate comments, preview posts and pages. Ok Android is great but the phone will not actually write your post. It does empower the blogger the freedom of managing a blog on the go.

The application is similar to applications available for iphone or blackberry, except its better. Not all wordpress apps are created equally or maybe Android is just  better. WordPress for Android is the only one to support WYSIWYG and stats and soon videopress.

WordPress for Android does support hosted blogs, so if you want to start blogging with your own custom domain, as an alternate to posting via email.

Once the application is installed, select wordpress.org and enter the details for you custom domain name and hey wordpressto.
