  • User data saved on the phone’s memory card is not affected.

This update is for the XperiaTM X10

For XperiaTM X10 mini, mini pro and X8 you will not be getting :

Most of the 2011 XperiaTM software functionality from e.g. XperiaTM arc will be included. The UI with the desktop layout and pinch-to-overview gesture will be similar and Gingerbread features like Wi-Fi & USB tethering, App storage on SD-card etc are included. Also the customizable horizontal app tray and the media experience widgets from the 2011 XperiaTM Products are in, including an integrated equalizer in the music player. Of course also apps that require Android versions 2.2 or 2.3 will now be possible to download from Android Market, e.g. Adobe flash.
You will gain

  • Adobe Flash
  • pinch (Sony said it was not possible. Under promise over-deliver)
  • Facebook inside Xperia – a series of unique integrations of Facebook into your multimedia apps, phonebook and calendar
  • The possibility to use your phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot
  • Music player with equalizer
  • USB tethering – share your 3G data connection via the USB connector
  • Photo widget – one click access to your photo gallery app
  • App tray sorting – arrange your apps in the order you want them

Sony Xperia Upgrade l Part 4 l Backup Sony Xperia X10 apps and user data

Sony Xperia update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread is here

In the previous post we discussed

  1. Overview l Root, ROM and DATA Backup upgrade to Gingerbread
  2. Rooting Sony Xperia X10
  3. Backup Sony Xperia X10 ROM and Safely test new Roms
  4. Backup Sony Xperia X10 apps and user data
  5. Preparing Sony Xperia X10 for Gingerbread upgrade
The apps required for the rest of the tutorial require that your phone be rooted. The rooting process I have chosen might be easier but it will have to be re-installed if you update the Rom ie. Network update. We are just doing the network update, however doing backup of your ROM will allow you to  try new roms or just use the network update with the benefits of rolling back.

The latest Android platform for smartphones, Android 2.3.3, is now available for your Xperia™ X10.Software updates are released at different times depending on the Network operator and country.

You will lose data !
User data, such as contacts, messages and more, saved in your phone memory will be overwritten. User data saved on the phone’s memory card is not affected.

Backing up your data
Your Entire Backup can be done with Titanium Backup

The data that needs to be sync would be your contacts, email and calendar
Using gmail or Google apps this should be easy.
music, video and photographs can be done by mounting the unit to your PC or laptop or
Backup and share media with Dropbox
Do not lose your Andriod phone. if you have there is

In the previous article we covered rooting the Xperia

Find the app or combination of apps which will get you back in track in the event that data is lost or your phone needs to be replaced. One backup solution will not solve all occasions so try a new rom or re-install to see what data you have not covered with your backup solution. Do not wait till the dreaded event happens to ind out.
