Blackberry Exception errors – Hard , soft and Factory Reset for Blackberry

March 1st, 2011 PhoenixCOZA Posted in My Thoughts No Comments »

I personally would not use a blackberry but since I have to fix it in order to stay in contact with someone who cannot be without one here goes the steps. (I would hate to be without a unit for a month for software issues.)

Note: Backup all applications before resetting the BlackBerry device using the Backup and Restore tool on the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
If you get errors using Blackberry Desktop you can remove the memory card as this will have the data and hope you synced with your pc lately or use google sync. Google sync can be setup with your custom domain. Contact NumAfrica for details on how to do this.

Soft Reset
This is done by pressing the ALT+RIGHT SHIFT(CAP)+DELETE keys. Performing a soft reset stops all applications on the BlackBerry device.

Hard Reset
This is accomplished by removing the battery, while the BlackBerry device is powered on. Hold the battery out for about 30 seconds, and replace. The BlackBerry device will reboot.

Factory Reset
Go to Options > Security > Menu key > Wipe Handheld on the device

Re-install and update the Software

  • Download and install the latest Desktop Manger Software, then the latest Handheld Software. Connect your device, open the Desktop Manager, select Application Loader, and follow the prompts.
  • Close the Desktop Manager if it is open.
  • Restart the Computer
  • Open the Desktop Manager.
  • Connect the Device.
You can restore your contacts and calendar using Google Sync.

Google Apps | Add map to google calendar event

February 10th, 2011 PhoenixCOZA Posted in My Thoughts No Comments »

Log into your Google Calendar.

Click Create Event in the upper left corner of your screen. You should see it under the Google Calendar logo.

In the large green shaded box, fill in the details of your appointment.  You also have the option to specify start and end times.

  •  The Where box allows you to enter the location. If you use this box, Google Maps will map the location you entered.  From your main calendar window, click on the small double lines under the appointment (in month view, click on the appointment title), you will see a link for map. If you click on the link, Google Maps opens in a new window.
The example below is the format you use for the Where box. This will allow you to have the map displayed on your Android or Laptop.
5 Mountains Lodge & Spa @-33.644207,19.039221

This format works well with Mobile devices as you will have a quick link to the map when the reminder pops up
