Sony Xperia Upgrade l Part 3 l Backup Sony Xperia X10 ROM and Safely test new Roms

In the previous post we discussed

  1. Overview l Root, ROM and DATA Backup upgrade to Gingerbread
  2. Rooting Sony Xperia X10
  3. Backup Sony Xperia X10 ROM and Safely test new Roms
  4. Backup Sony Xperia X10 apps and user data
  5. Preparing Sony Xperia X10 for Gingerbread upgrade
The apps required for the rest of the tutorial require that your phone be rooted. The rooting process I have chosen might be easier but it will have to be re-installed if you update the Rom ie. Network update. We are just doing the network update, however doing backup of your ROM will allow you to  try new roms or just use the network update with the benefits of rolling back.

Firstly I downloaded the current generic Rom which would mean I would have 2 Roms to fall back on. Sony Ericsson Xperia i10 Generic version 2.1update1 build 2.0.A.0.504
I will be using xRecovery but if you would like to use Flashtool the giude and software downloads can be found here on XDA
If you don’t want to loose your apps you have to backup them with Titanium or some other backup tool! see the next article for backup of apps.

Requirements:
  1. Phone must be rooted
  2. Install Busybox from the market

Download and Install
xRecovery 0.3-release
How?
Press BACK button 6 times times right after white SE label appears (I did 2 cycles of 3) .

How to Control the app:
Use VOLUME-UP and VOLUME-DOWN to browse, HOME to select, BACK to go back.
Backup the Rom:
Select Backup/Restore to backup your systems. Transfer a copy to your PC and keep it with the Sony Ericsson Xperia i10 Generic version 2.1update1 build 2.0.A.0.504

You now have your current ROM, the Generic and can download some new ROMS. NB Before trying out your new roms see our next part i order to backup your market apps
